Fear of Flying Courses: Are They Worth The Money?

There seems to be an evergrowing list of fear of flying courses available, but are they really worth the money?

That’s a difficult question to answer, and – like anything – could work for some but not for others. Prices vary from course to course, but all claim one thing:

You will overcome fear of flying worries

So, what should you look out for when choosing a fear of flying course?

Firstly, courses that offer a flight as part of the deal should be treated as your priority. One of the most popular course is run by Virgin Atlantic, and includes;

  1. Technical knowldge – delivered by current Virgin captains,
  2. Details of the Cabin Crew’s training and expertise – and how they can help
  3. A psychology session – using NLP (more on this in future weeks!)
  4. A flight. It may only be a short flight, but it’s important you get on an aircraft as soon as possible – or you risk forgetting all the training you’ve just received. The best part here, is that a captain will provide a constant commentary throughout the flight. Every noise, or bump will be explained by an expert

A course of this magnitude sounds expensive, but the current asking price is £199+VAT which seems pretty respectable in my opinion. Especially as they claim to have a 98% success rate.

They do also provide lot’s of free gifts to help you in the future, as well as the option to sign up for a free newsletter.

Aviatours (in conjunction with British Airways) are the main UK competitors to Virgin’s ‘Flying Without Fear’ course, and they are pretty much identical with regards to price, content, and success rate.

NB: There are also a wide range of similar courses in the US. Simply search using your favourite search engine ;-)

While researching for this article, I checked out the Internet forums that both companies have made available. There were two things that stood out while reading through;

  1. There are A LOT of satisfied customers. There are literally people raving about the service they received, and now claim to be cured.
  2. There are A LOT of others who couldn’t afford the course. It seems that if you have the cash available, the courses are a great investment. But, if not, it’s hard to find the help you need.

If you are struggling for the £200+ cost, why not ask others to help? Friends and family may be happy to help you out so that they can start to enjoy holidays abroad with you.

If this is not an option, then fear not. Here at FlyingFear.net I am devoted to providing the best information that I can. I will be developing a free fear of flying course in future weeks.
