The first product review at FlyingFear.net has arrived!
Captain Stacey Chance of FearofFlyingHelp.com has created a very informative site, along with a DVD and book for fear of flying sufferers. I was kindly given review copies of both by Captain Chance, and I thoroughly recommend them both.
Captain Chance is a current pilot for one of the world’s largest airlines and has over 30 years experience. In 2001, he decided to start his site as a means to help as many people as possible overcome their fear of flying.
The free course he offers at the site is invaluable, and extensive. The information offered is geared towards US travellers – but all rules and regulations mentioned barely differ in all developed nations.
With his motivation being those he helps, he set about writing his book (Wings of Discovery), and DVD (Prepare to Fly). The result was worth it.
Wings of Discovery is not your average flying fear book. Whereas most are either facts on flying, or hypnosis/psychology related, Chance’s book is a non-fiction look at flying.
The main character is gripped with a fear of flying, until he meets a couple of light aircraft enthusiasts. Chance takes you back to your childhood fascination with flying, and uses it to gently ease you into a feeling of safety and security.
Packed with information on safety procedures, with a high level of technical knowledge (as you’d expect from an experienced airline pilot!), read (or listen) along as he takes you through flying safety through the character’s conversations with his two new friends. The book is written well, and being non-fiction it eases you gently through your fear. By the final chapter you feel ready to face your fear head-on. This is when you should watch the DVD……
His ‘Prepare to Fly’ DVD is a fact-filled look at the aviation industry and covers everything from the highly trained individuals who ensure your safety at all costs, to the noises you should expect to hear at various stages in the flight.
The good news is, despite this being a US site, Captain Chance offers both products as a download option. You can choose to download the book as an ebook, or Mp3 audio version. Prepare to Fly is available as a download in various formats – including Mp4. Of course, you can opt to receive both as physical products, but do consider the download option. Why?
You can load both on to your iPod, and watch/listen before you get on the flight – and/or during for constant reassurance that you are in excellent hands.
