Posted by Flight Attendant as Passengers, Rants
Oh dear, I can see it already……. this post is going to turn into another anti-passenger rant! Before we go any further, I should state clearly that I do like the majority of them – but we do get the odd few that almost make you want to scream.
So, on to the story/rant!
It’s a Tuesday morning, at 10am in Paris Charles de Gaulle airport. Passengers have almost finished boarding the aircraft, and we will soon be on our way.
We have the normal problem – hand luggage. Too much of it, and most of it is too big. Every airline has it’s oen baggage allowance, but getting each individual airport to enforce each airline’s regulations is a logistical nightmare – and therefore we have the same problem almost daily.
As I’m talking (otherwise known as complaining) to my colleague about the situation, a passenger walks up to me, and says;
Your overhead lockers are far too small – I can’t even fit my bag in………
WHAT?!?!
Firstly, sir, your bag should never have been allowed onboard in the first place as it’s almost as big as my house. Secondly – our lockers?!
I’m pretty sure Airbus designed these lockers sir. I’m pretty sure the airline didn’t have much input. Yes, they can request certain configurations of the aircraft – but overhead locker size is prettty standard. In fact, I’d say the Airbus 320 series has plenty of room to place the average sized bag.
There are two things I’m certain of;
Whatever next. As a Flight Attendant I’ve been blamed for many things, from weather, to Air Traffic Control slots – but this is the first time I’ve been blamed for the way in which an aircraft is designed.
The above is what I wanted to say to the passenger in question, but what I actually said was;
I’m sorry sir, I’m afraid we will have to put your bag in the hold
Sometimes, it’s very difficult to stop myself saying what’s really on my mind. Rant over…..
P.S. Overhead lockers are overhead bins for those of you across the pond!
