I do not feel that because he did a short “rap introduction”, that neither he nor the rest of the crew not take the safety of their passengers seriously. In fact, I think it helps alleviate some of the anxiety that many passengers feel when flying. I do not work in the airline industry or have I ever, but I would think that after that “intro” they would go over the complete safety procedures – more thoroughly.
He mainly rapped about their names, cost of refreshment, form of payment and basic safety information.
My daughter remembered everything he said – and THAT’S AMAZING!
I see nothing wrong with having a little fun.

Obviously you don’t work in the airline industry. It is very competitive and passengers rely on airline companies to get them safe from A to B.
There is no room for joking around and perform unprofessionally. Having humor is fine on a one to one contact, but not to the entire crew and passengers. Passengers need to be assure that the crew members are professional and competant in what they do.
The climate of flying today, after 9-11, is very serious. We who work at the airports take it very seriously and always aware of baggage and packages left alone in parts of the terminal. Airports are always on alert orange. We enjoy being with passengers and always, with courtesy, respond to to passenger’s questions for directions. We often take the time from our duties and escort them personally too.
No, I am not a bitter over-worked business jocky. We who work at the airport really love our work and helping out people like you.

If you found that offensive in anyway you need to be flying Delta because you’re more than likely a humorless, somewhat bitter, over worked business jocky. Come on now..it was all in good fun. They’re just trying to make passangers feel more laid back and relaxed on their flight.

As an airport employee, I myself would prefer to have a straight forward standard FAA conpliant pre-flight safety presentation. Although it maybe boring to some, it is vital to hear and understand the airplane exits and where the life safety accessories are. It may save your life.
Having someone to represent the airline performing rap is not my taste of professionism. Times are hard now for all of us. Airlines charging for things that use to be included in our cost of a ticket and now having FA behaving unprofessionally. The next thing you will see is the FA throwing snacks to passengers.
Southwest Airline did not get the fuel cost impact like most of all the other major airlines. They must be pretty sassy about that. So are they so arrogant to go this directions for service?
I’ll fly with another airline with more professionalism in mind.

I can see where both of you are coming from – but my honest belief is that us Flight Attendants should be seen as professional, and I’m not sure this portrays professionalism at all.

I’m sure many will disagree with me – I’ve already read comments from other FA’s on another blog sending many insults to someone who disagreed with the rap!

Many of our passengers look to us to provide a safe and secure flight – and acting as though you are taking your role seriously is a big factor.

Don’t get me wrong, I DO have a personality. I DO have fun at work, and have a laugh with passengers. But I just think the rap is a little too far.

I think this was great. I know a lot of people who would like this. There is no reason a flight should not be enjoyable.
One more thing, when people use music their point is remembered; when things are very professionally done with a common people crowd, the people are likely to forget much of the infomation.
I would be willing to bet by the time the plane landed most of the people on the plain could still tell you how much the drinks cost he had described in his rap.

This is one reason why I do not fly Southwest! I want my flight attendants to act professional. I do not want them humorless robots, but they have to present themselves professionally. Looks like he was auditioning for American Idol or something.
