Posted by Flight Attendant as Plane Crashes, TV & Movies
Being a Flight Attendant I find myself watching anything and everything involving flying. I think it’s a common side affect of the job I do – an almost unnatural obsession with airline travel!
Most of us seem to be addicted to Air Crash Investigations, In fact I’ve often found myself watching an episode before heading off to work – and to anyone not the industry that probably seems a little sick. I find myself analysing any incident involving an aircraft, and try to put myself in the position of the crew onboard the affected flight.
I am also in the process of reading 4 books on plane crashes.
Question for other Flight Attendants: are you the same, or am I abnormal? Please let me know!
Anyway, tonight on BBC1 the movie ‘Red Eye’ is being shown – and I’ve never heard of it, let alone seen it. So, to anyone that HAS seen it – is it worth watching? Is it a good plot? Let me know……….
I’ll probably watch it regardless, but would be nice to know in advance if I’m going to be disappointed. The trailers look good, I’ve just watched on YouTube – see below;

1Great film – but not so much about flight travel as the plot between the two people.
Flightplan is a good one about flight travel.

2Yeah, I’ve seen Flightplan – not a bad film. I watched Red Eye last night and didn’t really enjoy it. Average at best I think!

3Red Eye is an example of a movie that’s greater than the sum of its parts.
The plot is so-so (albeit a fresh take on a cliched idea), but it’s Rachel McAdams that really made it for me. Maybe I’m overlooking its flaws, but I felt it was a tense, edgy, if slightly hollow thriller.
Great performances and direction, though. Give it a go.

4Yes, I think the same way, I put myself in their position. This has been since my roommate passed away in AA587. Not sick, I don´t think. I am sure police do the same when viewing a video of a police shootout etc.

7Wow, I thought I was the only one. I have watched every episode of Air Emergency, as well as any other crash investigation show — oftentimes multiple times each, and even just before heading out the door for work. I always think about what I’d think/feel/do in those situations and even how my friends and family would react. I have, on rare occasion, thought about it in flight as well, but not out of fear. I’m not at all scared to fly; it’s odd. I also find myself obsessed with any show/movie that involves an aircraft because most don’t stay true to reality (i.e. showing the exterior of a 747 and the interior of a 737). Thanks for putting this out there!
