Peoplw who don't believe in seatbelts should look through the FAA's website at the preliminary accident/incident reports. Thwy will find numerous reports about F/A's being injured as a result of turbulence.

Part 121 of the FAR's require that the passengers wear the seatbelt, and also prohibit taxiing with a passenger not buckled up. Years ago, I flew with a captain who would reprimand a pax if he/she wasn't strapped in ("the woman in the yelow dress: kindly sit down and fasten your belt"). He would then advise the back end crew to see that it got done.

Seatbelt is a must for any passenger flying in any type or kind of aircraft. Those people that argue there should not be fasten when flight is calm, I tell them accident/injury is waiting to happen.

Please put this none sense to rest.

Seatbelt sign is for your safety. When any aircraft falls in air pocket, you will be flying to the ceilling if you don't have your seatbelts fasen. Get with it, and get with the program.
Seatbelts won't save your life in some crashes, but it will help to save some lifes in right type of crashes.

I think people genuinely believe that there is an advantage to be gained by being first off the aircraft - potentially true if traveling with hand baggage only but how I laugh when people bust a gut to be out of their seats before the signs are out only to get to baggage reclaim and find that theirs is the last suitcase unloaded!!!
HOWEVER - tonight we were firmly established on the glideslope before the seatbelt signs came on; not a good start and the cabin crew had a hard job to check everyone - in fact, the guy next to me had his tray/table down when we landed.
I think most travelers fail to grasp the fact that the primary stopping force on an airliner is the brakes and that as such, if they are powerful enough to slow an aircraft from touchdown speed, they are powerful enough to send Joe Bloggs down the aisle should there be a need to stand on the brakes during taxi!
