Wow, this is going to be a really random post – but I have a question that has been bugging me for months (if not years!). It’s nothing to do with being a Flight Attendant, I’ve just noticed it on a lot of my flights and would love to know your theories.
Ready? The question is…….
Why do the majority of wealthy men wear outrageous red trousers.
Usually jeans or corduroy trousers no less. Has anyone else noticed this trend? Or am I going mad? Please help me!
I’m not implying that there is anything wrong with red trousers of course – but it seems to be some sort of status symbol that I am blisfully unaware of.
My only guess so far is that red is a regal colour. The definition of regal being;
Characteristic of or suitable for a king or queen, especially in grandeur or magnificence.
So, maybe my theory is correct and it is a status symbol – a status of ‘magnificence’ or wealth. This then leads to another question – is this not a little arrogant?
I am not a big fan of anyone who advertises their wealth, as to me wealth does not make anyone a better person – especially if said person was born into wealth and has never known what it’s like to struggle financially.
Any thoughts? I’m intrigued to hear them……….

2Dear flight attendant,
Attending a small rich liberal arts college has open my eyes to the way really really rich people act and dress. Often times the brightness level of pastels is an indicator of how much someone likes to show off their families money. This status symbol is bold and obnoxious, especially during the current hard times for many families. As many of these kids choose to spend their parents money with no regards for other people but them selves this cycle continues.

3I am a bloody upper class guy and i love to wear red/burgundy trousers to distinguish myself from the common people which i don’t like to be associated with.

4The red trousers are not supposed to be a status symbol or show off one’s wealth, you’ll find most of the people who wear them aren’t the sort who talk about money. It originates from officers in the army who when off duty would wear red trousers so that other officers would recognise them (Uniform is extremely addictive). From here they have spread to be worn by men of public school origin who like to dress well. I don’t question why the youth of today choose to wear tracksuits around town when they have no intention of doing exercise. There has always been great variation between how the different classes of our country dress, why question one and not the other?

6Red trousers can be warn by anyone. But as the previous chap stated the do maintain a preference in military circles, especially Guards regiments. All in all – top notch colour for trousers, what!?
